Barney Simon is in the house!
You hear him on the regional workplace on Jacaranda FM. Now find out more about him! We chat to Barney Simon.
How do you like working on a regional show?
I love it because it is more community driven and the listeners are always very keen on interacting.
How well do you know the Lowveld?
I performed many times in Pietersburg and Nelspruit way back in the 80s and 90s at various clubs, as well as at the Pietersburg Show. Blue Moon was amazing with many SA bands… (including a LOUD night with Seether).
Do you have a favourite place in the Lowveld?
I love Nelspruit and The Kruger. Hulala is nice.
What do you love about your show?
I have an amazing co-presenter called Sascha and she lives in and does the show from Nelspruit. She also does lots of features and inserts about all that’s hot and happening in the Lowveld.
Along with a constant flow of great tunes, we have fun with music trivia and comedy inserts… and we have a lot of free reign to just have fun and make great radio!
What challenges do you face?
I broadcast the show from our Midrand studios, Mondays to Fridays from 12pm-4pm, and sometimes it feels weird not physically being part of Lowveld, but it is radio – a powerful and adaptable medium – so we make it work well with a proper team effort.
How has COVID-19 affected you?
It’s been a challenge not being able to do MC work at corporate events and appear at clubs and live concerts. That said, we’ve made it our focus to be positive on air – aiming to make the listeners have a laugh and enjoy the best music on offer through these tough times.
Anything to add?
A MASSIVE thank you to all the loyal Jacaranda FM listeners over the years. When we need their help, they are always there to assist – without a doubt the best listener base in SA… and one that keeps on growing!
