This safari fantasy holiday home in Limpopo takes extreme to the next level.
Think African Gaudi-style architecture – sculpting organic forms; a sunken circular lounge with a fireplace, a floating mezzanine like a nest in midair where you can watch movies; and a veranda with 36-degree views. The bedrooms and bathrooms are housed in the surrounding huts, vaults, turrets, corbelled domes and long termite-mound-like towers.
The Observatory takes its name from a late addition to the plan: a seven-metre-high tower with a library crowned with an automated rotating copper dome brought in from California, which houses a 20-inch telescope for stargazing.
There are ceilings made from wildebeest skins rolled and stitched together and the dining room boasts a full skeleton of a hippo hanging above it.
