Zandri Strydom seeks gold
Meet Zandri Strydom, a teen mountain biking sensation from Mpumalanga and South Africa’s next Olympic icon. Starting in 2015, Zandri has finished in first place in over 90% of her races, including victories in the South Africa Cup Series in both 2016 and 2017 and winning her first ever three-day stage race at the Sabie experience also this year.
Raised on a farm and home-schooled in her early life, Zandri grew up on a bike. Coupled with the farm terrain surrounding her, mountain biking was the natural progression.
The cross-country discipline attracts Zandri the most because of the challenges it poses, boasting, “you get to ride in some of the most awesome places, a constant challenge, adventure and a hint of danger.”
This young rider dreams of utilising her talents on the bike as a career path overseas, and wants to qualify for next year’s Youth Olympics in Argentina, and following that is the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
